Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) can get in line with environmentally friendly Sandal’s Resorts International, Carlson Asia Pacific and Alila to save the planet after signing up with EarthCheck, the largest online carbon calculator.

The non for profit association confirmed this month that they would begin using the environmental management system to help members manage and evaluate their carbon impact.

The EarthCheck system will also provide PATA Member travel and tourism organisations tips on ways to minimize emissions.

“Using a science-based system such as EarthCheck to monitor, measure and manage the environmental impact of PATA Members helps them gain competitive edge and enhances triple bottom line results,” PATA Chief Executive Officer Greg Duffy said.

“Going beyond green and taking sustainability to a level of internationally accepted standards of compliance, while benchmarking operations against more than a decade of industry data puts PATA Members in an enviable position.”

EarthCheck has also provided PATA with fact sheets detailing every aspect of voluntary carbon offsetting, easy ways to reduce emissions, as well as the “environmental benefits of reducing waste output”.

“In a world that’s increasingly awash with eco claims, it’s good to see such leadership from industry bodies such as PATA,” EarthCheck Chief Executive Officer Stewart Moore said.

The environmental management system is one of the largest used by up to 1000 organisations across 70 countries.
