PROFILE

Chung Hua University (CHU) was foundedin Hsinchu Technopolis, near Hsinchu science park, in year 1990. College of Tourism was found by former General Director, Taiwan Tourism Bureau (TTB).

 

About the Collegeof Tourism, CHU

Tourism industry with fast growing in past decades is worldwide recognized as a preeminent industry. In line with the government policy to enhance the development of tourism industry, Chung Hua  University established the College of Tourism in 2007 aiming for cultivating well-disciplined managerial talents to meet the requirement of the industry.  The College is consisted of Department of Hospitality Management (DHM), Department of Leisure and Recreation Management (DLRM), and Department of Tourism and MICE Management (DTM). The DHM and DLRM were established in 1999 and 2004 respectively and merged in the college in 2007. The DTM offers the first bachelor-degree program  for   cultivating  MICE (meeting, incentive travel, convention and exhibition) talents. Over one thousand students are enrolled in the College in 2015.

We have around 30 full time faculty and staff members and a number of part time lectures from the industry or other universities to teach special courses. Our College owns rather complete teaching and practice establishments, including: an intern hotel (48 rooms, largest intern hotel in campus in Taiwan), an intern restaurant, an intern travel agency, a multimedia interactive cloud tour navigation lab, a culinary lab, a big function room for dining& room service training, etc. The International Conference Center and the Exhibition Hall of the Incubation Center in the University are the best places for the MICE students to practice their skill in organizing and operating the meeting and exhibition activities.

Most of the professional courses combine classroom teaching and learning by doing. Field trip to visit the industrial establishments is frequently held in different courses. Besides the classroom courses, the students have to do at least 400~500 hours internship for getting qualification of graduation. More than 30 companies and organization provide internship opportunities.
